Although they have similar names, the two languages are unrelated. Bear in mind, though, that most computer languages share some similarity. JavaScript was created by Netscape to do fancy things with webpages. Java was created by Sun as a cross-platform general purpose language. It is possible to create Java applets that will run on webpages. Even though Sun and Netscape are all chummy, they're just different.
